Summit Good

Circus Eruption

Episode Summary

This week we sit down to talk with Karen Chalk who coordinates the brilliant, innovative and sensational organisation Circus Eruption. Circus Eruption turn 30 this year and to mark it have managed to finally purchase their own space in Swansea, a run down old church full of spaces and potential for their inclusive, community focussed strategy. Circus Eruption has had such a phenomenal impact on individuals who have attended over the years, establishing itself as one of Swansea's proudest success stories. During the covid restrictions of 2020 we collaborated with them to erect a giant circus tent at the Summit Good field in order for them to run their activities outside through the end of summer. This month we catch up with Karen, hear about their new building and spend time to understand why Circus eruptions vision and values have held them through tough years and bread a beautiful resilience in their culture that influences all aspects of their organisation.

Circus Eruption:

We are a young person centred charity with diversity inclusion, equality and fun at its heart.

We harness the energy and commitment of young people, volunteers and staff to create a safe, playful, accessible and creative environment, free from discrimination and prejudice.

We use circus skills as a vehicle to challenge self-perceived and imposed limits enabling people to realise and believe in their own potential and the potential of others.
